Specialization

From the third year, students specialize in one of three areas: synthetic chemistry, photonic and electronic materials, and physical engineering. Building on their foundations in mathematics, physics, organic and physical chemistry, laid during their first two years, they will develop expertise in their specialization through advanced lectures, journal clubs and experiments. During the second semester of their second year, students are provided a broad introduction to polymeric and organic materials. Besides using these courses as preparation, students can also refer to their contents while choosing their future specialization.

Synthetic chemistry

Synthesis of novel molecules and materials

Learn chemical reactions, structure characterization, property and functionality evaluation etc. necessary for the synthesis of a wide range of polymers and organic materials. Investigate molecular structures that manifest the desired performance and functionality, and the synthesis of materials with novel functionality.

Photonic and electronic materials

Synthesis of novel molecules and materials

Learn chemical reactions, structure characterization, property and functionality evaluation etc. necessary for the synthesis of a wide range of polymers and organic materials. Investigate molecular structures that manifest the desired performance and functionality, and the synthesis of materials with novel functionality.

Physical engineering

From materials to products and systems

Learn structural characterization and physical property evaluation; processing, its analysis and improvement etc. of polymeric and organic materials. Investigate macroscopic phenomena from a molecular perspective, manifestation of latent functionality by controlling the structure and dynamics of polymeric and low-molecular-weight molecules, design of technologies appropriate for the processing of novel and functional materials etc.
